Why Tank X?

Secret to this puzzle is all about water pressure and the height of the water.

Higher Water Level: Even though both tanks hold 1,000 Litres, Tank X is narrower at the bottom. This means the water is “pushed” higher up, making the water level much taller than in Tank Y.
More Pressure: In physics, the deeper the water is, the more pressure there is at the bottom. Because the water in Tank X is taller, it pushes down on the tap with much more force.
Faster Flow: Because of that extra pressure, the water will spray out of the tap in Tank X much faster than it will from Tank Y.

Physics Rule:

The pressure at the bottom of a container is calculated by the formula:

P = \rho gh

$P$ is the pressure.
$h$ is the height of the water.

Since Tank X has a larger $h$ (height), it has a larger $P$ (pressure), which makes it empty first!
